We're Moving...Again

I know, I know, we swore up and down the last move was going to be our LAST move. Well, you know what they say, if you want to hear God laugh just tell Him your plans :) We've been getting a lot of questions regarding this decision so rather than answering everyone individually I thought it would be a good start to just get everything out in the open. So here goes.

Probably the biggest question we've been getting is "why are you moving?" Well, there are a lot of reasons for that but I'll try to be brief.

  • We overestimated our ability to keep up with our house, 23+ acres, 3 kids, 2 full time jobs, and a dog. We had all these great ideas for what we wanted our land and home to become but with all our other obligations it just got to be too much.
  • Our family quickly outgrew the house. At first it wasn't a big deal for the girls to share a room but that is no longer working well, and will likely just get worse as they get older. Also God recently put on mine and Josh's heart to grow our family by fostering and/or adopting. In our current house we wouldn't have anywhere to put another kid.
  • We also overestimated our love of the country life. I've always known I was a city girl but driving doesn't bother me (I even do that as a large portion of my job) but making an hour round trip to the store/pharmacy/restaurant has begun to wear on us.
Next, we tend to get a list of "but don't you love ______?"
  • Our church - yes, we absolutely love our church and the community we have there. This is one of the biggest things we considered when deciding to move. While it will be hard to say goodbye to some amazing people we know God has a plan for us and will provide for us.
  • The kid's school - again, yes, Lindale has great schools and we have had a wonderful experience so far. For me when we first began talking about moving I told Josh we could move as long as we stayed in the same school district so the kids wouldn't have to change schools. Josh grew up moving a lot so this wasn't a big deal for him initially. But while Josh was filling out papers for a potential new job he had to list every school he ever went to, and he couldn't remember them all. He realized then he didn't want that for our kids, but staying in this area just isn't going to work for our family.
  • Your job - luckily Josh works remotely from home so as long as he has internet he can work from anywhere. My job, however, is specific to Smith County so I wouldn't be able to continue working here while not living here. While it will be hard to leave my amazing coworkers and the precious moms and babies I get the honor to work with I am confident that God has a bigger and better plan for us all.
Last is our plan for moving. We are planning to build a new house in Rockwall, TX.
  • Why Rockwall? They have great schools, ranked just as well as Lindale. It is close to a lake and Josh loves to be on the water. It's not too much father from family than we currently are. It's also a bigger city without being Dallas/Houston big which give our whole family many more opportunities. And lastly building a house the size we would need is more affordable there than other areas.
So there it is. Hopefully this shows that we didn't make this decision lightly and we put a lot of thought and prayer into it. I hope I answered all the questions you have, if not - better luck next blog ;)
